The easiest journaling ideas are the everyday ones: what you ate, where you went, what made you laugh, and what you're looking forward to. You don't need beautiful handwriting or an artistic eye. A few lines of writing, a photo or ticket stub, and a couple of stickers are enough to turn an ordinary day into a page you'll love flicking back through. Below are 50 journaling ideas to get you started, plus a simple way to decorate any page with stickers in about ten minutes.
In this guide
Journaling is part memory keeping, part slowing down. Writing a few lines at the end of the day helps you notice the small good things, clear your head, and remember moments that would otherwise blur together. A decorated journal also becomes a keepsake: years from now, a page about an ordinary Tuesday coffee date will mean more than you expect.
Pick one when you open your journal and can't think what to write. There's no wrong answer and no minimum word count.
This is the simple method we use for most spreads. It works in any notebook, from a Hobonichi to an A5 dot grid.
Pick two or three colours or one theme, like florals, café, or cottage. Our monthly journaling collections are designed around a single theme, so every sticker in the kit already goes together. That's the shortcut if you don't want to mix and match.
Add the date or a title at the top of the page. A script sticker makes it look polished instantly. Try our Days & Months scripts or Arched Scripts.
Choose one larger sticker, photo or ephemera piece as the star of the page and place it slightly off-centre. Larger decorative stickers from our Decorative Stickers or Fashion Girls collections work well here.
Fill the space around your focal piece with your words. Leave a little white space so the page can breathe.
Tuck in a few tiny icons, a quote or a swatch to fill gaps and tie the colours together. Our Mini Journaling Doodle Icons, Quotes and Paint Swatches are made for this step. For a soft layered look, try a sheet of vellum paper over part of the page.
Tip: transparent stickers blend into the page for a seamless look, while matte stickers are best if you want to write on them. Our guide to sticker finishes explains the difference.
Write about your day, things you're grateful for, memories you want to keep, or your plans and goals. If you're stuck, pick one prompt from the list above and write three sentences.
Whatever you can keep up. A few lines daily or one spread a week both work. Consistency matters more than length.
Just a notebook and a pen. Stickers, washi tape and photos are lovely extras that make decorating quicker and more fun, but you can add them over time.
Themed sticker kits are the easiest place to start because every piece coordinates. Add script headers, mini icons and quote stickers for small details.
Use stickers for the visual parts and keep your layout simple: a header, one focal piece, your writing, and a few small details. Leaving some white space makes any page look more polished.
